For over a century, the Maytag brand has proudly stood as a dependable American brand. That's why the Ager family is proud to have been a Maytag Dealer Since 1932. Starting in Nicktown, Pennsylvania a small town of 42 families in the heart of Central Pennsylvania. This is where Uncle Lou Ragley began the First Maytag Dealership in 1932, with his brother Stanton also starting one that same year in Punxsutawney, PA. In 1936 Lou's nephew Clem Ager started working for him as a traveling Maytag salesman. In 1938 Lou's other brother Setus Ragley started his Maytag Dealership in Clarion, PA.

After working five years for Uncle Lou, Clem decided to go into business for himself. In 1941 he started Ager Maytag in Indiana PA. It is noted in the 1963 Maytag Newspaper that Lou Ragley bought and sold more Maytag appliances in 1940 and 1941 than any other dealer in 23 Central Pennsylvania Counties. This was a fine showing and he did this out of a shop type store in a town of 200 souls, with two salesmen and no truck - just roadsters with turtle backs removed. In 1951 Clem helped his Brother Stanton who decided to get into the Maytag business when he opened Ager Maytag Sales & Service in Blairsville, PA. Then in 1954 he helped his other Brother Clair who became a Maytag dealer in Kittanning, PA.

In April 1960 Clem helped his son Jim start his career in the Maytag business. It was then that Jim was given the decision by Maytag to open a Maytag dealership in Johnstown, Somerset, or Jeannette, PA and chose Jeannette. Jeannette was chosen because of the major glass industry, booming business district, and thriving economy at the time. So it was then that Ager Maytag Sales & Service began to Sale & Service Maytag Appliances.

Ager Maytag Sales & Service with over 50 Years of continued Service to the Jeannette Community. Starting in April of 1960 at 306 Clay Avenue. Moving across the street to 315 Clay Avenue in May 1964 where we stayed until a fire ruined the entire structure in December 1986. In February 1987 we opened our new store a few doors up in the old Joe Workman's Department Store Building at 309-311 Clay Avenue where we still continue to operate.

It was also noted in the 1965 edition of the Maytag Newspaper, That during a retirement picnic on May 25, 1965 at the Soisson Farm near Nicktown, PA for Paul Coxey Sr., the Maytag regional manager of Greensburg, PA Mrs. Evelyn Ager was named the Queen, because of being the Mother of Clem, Clair, & Stanton Ager, the Grandmother of Jim Ager and a Sister to Louis, Stanton, & Setus Ragley all seven of whom were Maytag Dealers.

In January of 2007 after celebrating 75 years of continued business with Maytag, its parent company Whirlpool Corporation conferred the honor of making us one of its official Home Appliance Centers, a distinguished honor only given to select dealers because of dedication to the brand and loyal support. We are now Ager Maytag Home Appliance Center. As an official Maytag Home Appliance Center we not only carry and service Maytag but also Whirlpool, Kitchen-Aid, Amana, & Estate branded appliances.

ENERGY STAR®

ENERGY STAR® qualified appliances are nothing new; actually they've been around since the mid 90's. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of Energy got together to create a program to help protect the environment while saving us money and boom, ENERGY STAR was born! So, what do we really know about ENERGY STAR?

ENERGY STAR qualified appliances integrate advanced technology using up to 50% less energy and water than standard models. According to www.energystar.gov, the typical household spends more than $2,000 a year on energy bills, but change to appliances that have earned the ENERGY STAR, and you can save $75 a year in energy costs, while saving the environment.

Cash for Appliances is a rebate program made available from the Department of Energy (DOE) for those that purchase of high-efficiency household appliances, furnaces and air-conditioning systems. The DOE is offering nearly $300 million in rebates for this program that resembles that of the "cash for clunkers" as part of the federal economic-stimulus bill. Be sure to check with your local utility company for rebate information or you can visit the ENERGY STAR website for a full list of the states and territories with approved appliance rebate programs. For more details about an individual state or territory program, you can click on the state's web site or call the contact number listed. The ENERGY STAR website also has a great tool called the "rebate finder" to help you find money-saving discounts by zip code.
